Verizon iPad 2 Payment - Warning

Just a heads-up and warning for those with the Verizon’s iPad. (Or thinking of it)

I returned the Verizon iPad due to problems with Verizon.

One of the few reasons I returned the Verizon iPad was that the software would not allow me to enter the Data Plan section to Cancel my monthly data plan.

I called Verizon to Cancel my Data Plan since I no longer had the product. They have no clue how to do this.

I’ve called since last week. They could not find my account to cancel the monthly billing. One Verizon billing person said that Apple would automatically cancel the billing once the ipad was returned. This turned out to be totally incorrect.

So, today I do get a monthly bill for the upcoming monthly data plan with the Verizon iPad. This is an iPad I don’t have, and returned to Apple last week!! I knew the people working at Verizon didn’t know what they were doing.

Verizon can’t find my Account to cancel it.

After hours on the phone, and me having to ask the questions, I got a supervisor who knew just a little. She thought the iPad billing was done in another department called “Pre-Pay”. It’s a department that the rest of Verizon doesn’t have access to.

So, here’s the secret after wasted hours on the phone.

Suppose you lost you iPad, broke your ipad, or returned your ipad to Apple.

You do in fact have to call Verizon customer support. However, you have to tell these morons that you need to be transferred to “Pre-Pay"

Hopefully, your agent will know how to do this.

Once there, you have to give them the MEID code of the iPad. Fortunately, I had the box it came in. This number is listed on the back of the box.

With this MEID code, Verizon was able to cancel future monthly billings.

However, they said I had to call my credit card company and report the upcoming billing as Fraud in order to cancel the next billing cycle.

One of the problems is that the iPad billing is totally separate from the regular billing / support, and these departments don’t communicate with each other.

Just go a call from another friend returning the Verizon ipad due to connection / software issues. (same as me).

Again, this is a warning to those thinking of the Verizon iPad.

Most likely, if you have a Verizon ipad and something happens to it, you may have to report fraud to your credit card company in order to stop payments. Verizon is just no up to speed yet.

Another warning on Verizon's billing policies. I canceled the auto renewal the day before the end of the monthly billing period. I received an e-mail the next day telling me my credit card was billed for another month. About 2 hours later I received a second e-mail confirming my cancellation of the auto renewal.

I called Verizon customer service to see why my credit card was billed. She said my auto renewal cancellation was received after my credit card was billed. I asked the rep why my credit card was billed prior to my month being up. She said it was automatically renewed because my data plan was running low. I had only used a little over 10% of my data plan for the month so that couldn't have been the truth. The rep said my credit card would be credited for the charge - I will only believe it after I see it on my statement after some of the things she told me.

When I purchased the ipad the sales person in the Apple store told me I would be receiving an e-mail prior to the end of the month of service (asking if I wanted to renew or not) or if my data was running low. I received neither. Just go in with your eyes wide open with the Verizon billing.

A hint to those trying to find the ipad MEID. It is engraved on the back of the ipad but is so small you need a magnifying glass to see it. An easier way is to go into "Settings", then "General", tap the "About" tab on the top and the MEID is contained in that section.

To echo Honuguy - Verizon does some very strange billing with auto renew. I canceled auto renew the day before it expired, but was still billed just like Honuguy. I called Verizon and the rep I spoke with said he could do nothing about the charge and that the only remedy was to do it thru my credit card. So I did that and my credit card refunded the amount to my account. Then again this month, I canceled 2 days before the end, received 2 emails confirming my cancellation, and the next day Verizon tried again to charge me, but luckily for me, my credit card refused the Verizon charge.

I think that the only safe way seems to be to deactivate the account rather than simply canceling the auto renewal. That way all the credit card data is removed from the iPad.

I have never had this type of problem with Verizon on my cell phone, but the prepay department seems to be quite questionable to deal with.
