Iphone 3G restore error 1015... Please help.

To begin with i would like to let you know that i don't speak the phone Jargon so if people could explan in simpe english for me that would be great.

Brought my Iphone 3G from my brother, had it unlocked... worked perfectly...

Decided to sell it as i need cash towards rent, so went to clear it completley by clicking restore in itunes.....

It then decides to tell me that it can not complete the restore due to unknown error 1015 and that it is stuck in recovery mode and can not be used until it has been restored using itunes.

I have tried deleting the old ispw file (is that what its called!?) and still no luck.

Can anybody help me please? I really could do without this at the moment 😟

Thanks in advance.

The error you are getting refers to the iPhone being jail broken and unlocked, as you probably know this does all sorts of funny things to the device and now unfortunately the iPhone has essentially locked up and you will no longer be able to restore it to it's original state.

This is a 'side affect' if you will from unlocking it without authorisation from the carrier you may have been locked with. It may seem like its worth it to unlock it at times but staying within the 'ecosystem' that Apple has made for customers is a lot safer.

Hope this helps!

Sorry, not a topic we can discuss here since this is a jailbroken phone. Use Google, search for "iPhone 1015 Restore".

Just because you can sell the phone for the same price does not mean it is easy to fix. For someone who is knowledgeable in such areas it would not be a problem for them to do it themselves. Is your buyer planning on using the phone on the AT&T network?

Did you officially unlock it through O2?

Sorry, you didn't bother to put in a location so I assumed you were in the States. Disregard the reference to AT&T.

The restore error 1015 is almost always seen on a hacked or jailbroken iPhone. Again, try a Google search.

If your iPhone has never been hacked, jailbroken, or tinyumbrella used on it, try the steps here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275

I posted an Apple link for that error message by editing that last post, but I can now say for sure nothing there will work. What the gadget shop told you was true, it is not illegal, but they jailbroke the iPhone in order to make it work with T-Mobile. This is why you got this error message when you tried to restore it.

I would suggest calling the gadget shop, or taking it back to them, and getting them to fix it for you if you cannot understand or follow any of the Google, YouTube, MacRumor or other entries that cover this problem.
