Apple Digital AV Adapter full screen

Movies output at up to 720p. Here is the line from Apple's description on-line, 'Use the Apple Digital AV Adapter to mirror whatever’s on your iPad 2 screen — apps, presentations, websites and more — on your HDTV or HDMI-compatible display in up to 1080p HD (movies play at up to 720p).' Some games do output at 1080p.

Turning to mirroring : in Apple's web advertising (have a look at the image I grabbed below) it quite clearly shows a mirroring of the iPAD 'home page' on to a flat screen. You can see it appears to fill the whole screen top to bottom. Well I've tried two iPAD2's and two flat screen TVs and it doesn't. Best it does is about 75% of the screen top to bottom so I'm pretty sure it is mirroring at 720p.

Slide shows do output at 1080p as does utube.

Some flat screen TV's will take in a 720p HDMI input and allow upscaling to 1080p (so it fills the screen) but the two TVs I have tried don't do this.

So I'm pretty sure that the Apple iPad2 using their AV adapter does not mirror at 1080p even though their own advertising images give the impression that it does.

You'll see a growing number of posts from other folks with the same issue and I'm just hoping that Apple will decide to 'clarify' the situation.

I concur, and I was also disappointed.

I hooked the AV adapter to my 1080p HDTV (via HDMI cable) and it doesn't even fill the screen top-to-bottom. I would expect black side-bars as the screen size of 1080p is slightly different aspect ratio than the iPad... but not even outputting to fill the 1080p signal is a big disappointment.

My HDTV reports it is a 1080p signal... it just isn't doing even what the above picture suggests it was going to do!

I hope Apple can post a resolution to this quickly.

I am mirroring from iPad 3 to Samsung 32 LED FULL HD tv. It mirrors around 60% only. I bought adapter with an expectation of full size HD. INR 2630 isn't worth for this half size. Apple should be explaining this clearly in the product description.

But I didn't face any other problem than size. It mirrors almost everything on iPad 3.

I think that's normal, movies and apps that enable 1080 output will fill the screen.

Apple have falsely claimed that mirroring will output at full 1080p. It doesn't. You should complain to them as I did.

Can you please show where Apple have stated this? Everywhere I have seen it stated it is only saying videos will be output as 1080p.

Only iphone works with full screen, i really dont know why
