Problem downloading iphone software

Hey I am trying to update the latest sofware for my iphone 3gs (version 4.3.3). It downloads but just as it finishes downloading the error message "There was a problem downloading the software to the iphone 'Pauline's iphone'. The network connection timed out." comes up. I have tried 5 times but the same thing happens every time.
Please help me how do i solve this issue?

I too have had this frustrating problem. Downloaded it 3 times now and each time, get full download but as it starts processing the file, it gives a warning "there was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone 'Jan's iPhone'. The network connection timed out. I am using a wireless dongle and it showed it was still connected. Have tried disabling the antivirus etc, but no change to the download. Have you got any more answers please. Last time I tried only downloading the file, not installing it, but the exact same happened, Hope you can help please.

The reply labelled "Correct answer" by KiltedTim does not work. I can see by reading the replies here and trying this myself that it is not a firewall or antivirus issue. It is obviously an issue with the update. I've never had an issue before now. But I too cannot download this update. The same error message "there was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone 'Lee's iPhone'. The network connection timed out".

Can someone from Apple please supply the solution to this issue. I would rather not restore my phone just to fix this. Thank you.

The Correct Answer label means it worked for the Original Poster. And it is worked for lots of others. If it is not working for you have you disabled ALL of your antivirus/antispyware software, opened your firewall, and tried again. Do you possibly have other software that is interfering with the writing of downloads?

Did I miss your post in this thread? The one where you laid out the issues you were having and any error messages you were getting? I must have because I don't remember seeing it here.

Of course Apple is sometimes wrong. For 2 updates in a row I had echo problems when using BT with my car. I sent in feedback and I called AppleCare. Eventually it was fixed.

But for the OP in THIS thread the problem was their antivirus/antispyware software and the solution worked for them.

If you are sure it is a problem with 4.3.3 (and I know a number of people with Windows computers that updated and didn't have an issue so it is not a systematic problem) then wait for iOS 5 and maybe it will be fixed in that update.

You didn't miss it, I just didn't feel the need to be redundant. It is the same issue others are experiencing - to a 't'. So why should I spell it out again - you guys are smarter than that. Smart-arse, too 👿

Yes, I will obviously call applecare, I was just trying to avoid it by posting here. One step at a time 😉

LOL, re-read your post again flame-boy.

If you are getting error 3259 that is always related to interference with the download by some type of security software, with Kaspersky being the worst offender and down from there. Usually when you see a timeout message just at the end of the download or a cannot write to disk message at the end it is the same issue, but there are some other causes.

Good way to test it: try the update on a different computer.

Good luck with AppleCare hope you get it resolved soon.

Well, I doubt you'd be throwing 'boy' around if we were face-to-face, but that's a whole different story.

Thanks for the pointers, I did try on a different computer, albeit on the same network - and same issue. Gets to the end, then asks me to 'check my network settings' and unable to complete (all potential offendinh software diabled, 'course). I'll just waiti 'til the next update, no big deal - just thought there was a simple solution.

Deggie and Kilted Tim were correct. I went back and tried disabling everything again except this time I shut down my anti-virus (Kasperski) AND went into windows security and shut EVERYTHING down. I then tried downloading the updates using itunes and it worked. I don't think it's very good that I had to shut everything down like that to make it work, especially considering it worked fine up till now with previous updates. So maybe Apple has made a mistake along the way? I'm no expert.

Can I just say though that I love my iPhone, these forums and am very grateful for all the help I get in the stores and on line. Tech issues can be frustrating. But hey life could be worse than, "oh my iPhone isn't up to date, **** the world!: lol Thanks everyone for helping. Hopefully people reading this can find a solution too.

Peace.
