MAC Mail not saving all sent items

Hi,

I'm using OS X 10.6.7 and using MAC Mail over an IMAP connection.

For some reason this particular MAC Mail is not saving / recording all sent emails. The recipient is receiving them all so they've definitely been sent, but they're not appearing in the sent items / sent folders.

I have tried exactly the same IMAP account on another OS X 10.6.7 mac and ALL emails appear in the sent items.

It seems there is a fault / bug with the MAC Mail. Is there any hotfixes out there or any steps to try to ensure evry sent email is logged / saved in the sent folders?

Thanks

Chris

I don't know if this solution is mentioned yet, 44pages..
But it worked for me:

- In your inbox folder, create a new folder named: Send Messages
- Select the folder "Send Messages"

- Go to Mailbox -> Use this mailbox as -> Send mailbox

- Send a test mail and see if it will appear in the "Send Messages" mailbox!

Hope this will work for you!

Same Problem here. I notice that it only happens after a hang up in sending the message (i.e. it takes unusually long befor you hear the "swoosh") Most other times when the message sends normally, it appears in the sent mail folder. I've also noticed that not only is the sent mail missing from the Apple mail client, but it is not in the email web client either. This is a big problem. I hope apple is listening

Eaactly the same problem with me as well. POP accounts and one of two IMAP accounts work fine. One IMAP account exhibits exactly what you guys are experiencing - no Sent items folder and no Junk items folder but I do have a Trash items folder for the account.... Weird. The account does have these folders on my iPhone so I know they exost but I really want them on my Mac......!! Come on Apple - sort this one out.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I have stopped using the Mac Mail desktop client. It seems this is ONLY an issue in the desktop client, since everytime I send mail from an IOS 5 device, the mail goes into the sent folder of my web based yahoo mail. and all the other folders also seem to update correctly, so the fix for me is just not to use the Apple mail desktop clent. The only wrinkle there is that now I have to maintain 2 address books (apple and yahoo). I don't want to try and include yahoo in sync the apple address book doesn't map well to yahoo.

I have to first say: if you've composed your email via an IMAP account, and the email sent at all, the problem is not with the Apple product Apple's Mail is POP (Post Office Protocol), and completely separate from the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) mail servers—so, for example, Apple Mail cannot lose or delete your gmail or your yahoo mail on those sites. The only ways the messages can be missing from your IMAP account are: if your Apple Mail client is not properly configured to forward to your IMAP account; if your settings are to delete immediately from your IMAP account; if the email went to your junk/spam folder; or in the event the message was never actually sent.

This knowledge was a saving grace for me, during the time I was losing messages in Apple Mail.

My problem with the Mail application was linked to the fact my computer was experiencing kernel panic. This is apparently a common defect, for Mac users who upgrade to Snow Leopard on certain builds of Mac machines: it's not an application problem, but a hardware defect. The threads here will give more information on kernel panic. Eventually, my machine was replaced with a newer model. Problem solved.

I had this same problem of sent emails not saved. However upon investigating I realised that my time & date had been reset and because of that all my emails were dated 'wrongly' and were lodged in my sent folder but in a different time zone. When I adjusted my time & date, I could once again locate my sent emails.

This was my situation, yours could be different but you may like to check your time & date of your mac, just incase it's the same issue as mine. Good luck!

I'm having the same problem. Mails are not appearing in my sent folder from an IMAP account. I can hear them send (though it seems to take ages) and I know they are being received but I have no record of them. Very frustrating because it only happens to some of the sent mail. If I click on the little replied arrow it says I may have deleted the mail. I haven't. And this morning I sent a mail which wasn't a reply and that has disappeared too. I really want to have these mails in my sent folder? They are not on the server either. Where are they? Hellup.

This lost sent mail problem documented above seems to have first appeared for me about the time I applied the 10.7.3 update. Paused "swoosh" means the message does not appear in the Sent folder nor on the IMAP server. A additional problem is that Mail has been starting with random window layouts and changed preferences. So, not only are old problems still not fixed, but new ones are introduced with 10.7.3. I thought it might be an iCloud problem, but I have that option disabled.

I just switched my companies email to imap using Rackspace as our host . Some of our users are still in snow leopard and some in lion. Everyone is complaining about emails not sticking in the sent box either locally or up at webmail. The recipients are receiving the mail.. . This happens ether typing a new one or replying to an old.. I notice when it happens it looks like the email gets hung up a little in the activity bar for a couple seconds.. Then it whooshes out, and does not appear in the sent folder either up on the rackspace server or locally on our machines. This happens haphazardy, but we are trying th isolate the problem... I also noticed as someone else did that sometimes it occurs the first email in the morning but I can't recreate it upon demand. Our mac metwork consultant is at a loss at the moment..

All outgoing settings have been checked and rechecked and are correct.. We have these variables, macmail, rackspace maiil hosting, cablevision ISP, ethernet and or airport wireless networks.. As you can well imagiine this is not good for our business..

Anybody have any additional insight? I've had rackspace troubleshooting this for a week and they have come to the conclusion its a mac mail bug....

Your last question connects with a discovery I made a few weeks ago, and this has solved the problem I was having with missing Sent Mail as far as I can see at the moment. Looking at the left hand column in Mac Mail, I see a very long list of sections, as follows:

MAILBOXES

Inbox
Drafts

Sent

- Gmail

- Hotmail

- icloud

Trash

REMINDERS

- Flagged

- Notes

ON MY MAC

RSS

GMAIL

- [Google Mail]

- All Mail

- Bin

- Sent Messages

My missing Sent Mail turned out to be stored in the Sent Message folder at the very bottom of this list.

I then clicked this folder and opened Mailbox in the top bar, the selected:

> move to favourite mailbox

and chose Sent from the options given. This seems to have had the effect of moving the missing Sent Mail to the first Sent folder at the top of the column.

It seems however that I am still getting new Sent Mail in the Sent Mail box at the bottom of the column, and I am wondering if this has something to do with IMAP, and if so how I might get IMAP to send my sent mail to the same folder at the top of the column in future.

Any ideas welcome.

Another case of exactly these issues with my emails. Its an intermittent problem, and email is actually received OK by person sending to, though all trace of it 'vanishes' from iMac and iPhone. Like others, the only difference I've noticed when email is sending is that seems to take much longer than normal before the 'whoosh' is heard, then it completely disappears!

I'm a newcomer to these forums, do Apple pick up issues like this or is it sensible to contact them as well?

Thanks
