MAC Mail not saving all sent items

Hi,

I'm using OS X 10.6.7 and using MAC Mail over an IMAP connection.

For some reason this particular MAC Mail is not saving / recording all sent emails. The recipient is receiving them all so they've definitely been sent, but they're not appearing in the sent items / sent folders.

I have tried exactly the same IMAP account on another OS X 10.6.7 mac and ALL emails appear in the sent items.

It seems there is a fault / bug with the MAC Mail. Is there any hotfixes out there or any steps to try to ensure evry sent email is logged / saved in the sent folders?

Thanks

Chris

I don't know if this solution is mentioned yet, 44pages..
But it worked for me:

- In your inbox folder, create a new folder named: Send Messages
- Select the folder "Send Messages"

- Go to Mailbox -> Use this mailbox as -> Send mailbox

- Send a test mail and see if it will appear in the "Send Messages" mailbox!

Hope this will work for you!

I have been having problems with emails being sent but not showing in the sent folder, html emails not showing as html, emails not deleting, and emails mysteriously moving by themselves from inbox or other folders to trash. I have worked with AppleCare for months on this, and every person has a different excuse. Some blame it on Yahoo and Gmail, but some say it is a problem with the computer. I have been escalated to a "technical expert" who puts the full blame on Yahoo, Gmail, and people who set up their daily mailings. Everyone is at fault EXCEPT for Apple.

I should say that my problems started on Snow Leopard. I was forced into upgrading to Mountain Lion where the issues are still occurring. I can't trust this computer's email for business anymore.

Plain and simple . . . MAC MAIL SUKS!!!!!! I upgraded my trusty PC of many years to a Mac Book Pro. There are quite afew things I like about the Mac over the PC, but MAC MAIL is not one of them. After happily using Thunderbird for years, it took me a few days to configure MAC MAIL and get it feeling comfortable enough to feel like Thunderbird. First I began to have issues with ATT/Yahoo servers constantly asking me for passwords. I did all the first aid and other stuff from the forums and it helped, but didn't solve it.

Intermitently I noticed it would throw things in the drafts mailbox after they'd been sent. And now today there NO SENT MAILS IN ANY OF MY SENT MAIL MAILBOXES!!!!!!!

I have gmail accounts and att/yahoo accounts. Some of it may still be on the servers. But I have the box checked to save them to my mac. I am thouroughly dissapointed with MAC MAIL and now they have cost me big time!

Did I mention that I spent hours searching and still found no way to change the MAC MAIL icons to color icons. How difficult can that be?

Did I mention that Picture preview insists on opening two images every time?

Did I also mention that I have found 'Finder' to be rather clunky and not on par with ye ole Windows Explorer?

Do these fixes require programming knowledge to change code? Some of them might. But that's not what I bought an operating system and software for.
Don't get me worng, I like my new Mac. It has improved my productivity in many ways. But I don't feel the MAC team is very responsive to the real problems. Maybe they are too focused on developing new Iphones and Ipads and really don't care.

Please correct me if I am worng here . . .

I am so happy I found you all, been telling the hubby about the sent messages not appearing issue for weeks. He didnt believe me! Well even though I have no idea what to do (except maybe I will just bcc myself into all my sent messages) at least I am not alone. Also I get the random password request that is then not accepted when it is the correct one and my email account gets blocked for 24 hours.....happens every other day bizarre and annoying. Life is too short to keep grumbling about it so I have just accepted I am a part time email user.........ho hum. Cheers guys, was lovely reading all your comments. If anyone does actually find a cure do let me know.

I seem to have found a very simple solution for my macbook (10.6.8) at least, which was to archive many of the messages in the Sent folder, to a folder on my macbook hard-drive.

I don't know why that would work, as there were not really a vast number of messages there, and plenty of space both on my computer and on my Virginmedia gmail-type server. However, all Sent messages are now being saved, at the moment, on the macbook, including with attachments. I have not yet tried the same on my Imac (10.7.5), however.

Yeah, Apple Support don't want to hear that there's a problem with Mail. I opened it a minute ago and was told in the activity monitor I had five emails incoming. Guess what? Not one of them has shown up in any folder. Downloaded Thunderbird tonight and so far it's working like a dream. The new interface takes a bit of getting used to but as long as it keeps working I won't be going back to Mail.

This is the first time I've had the issue. I found this in my logs.

11/26/12 2:29:15.696 PM Mail: Error (null) occurred while trying to append messages to outgoing store. Ignoring and proceeding with delivery...

It is not in my sent messages, but does this mean the message at least sent? It was a rather important email that I don't wish to have to send twice.

Hi Jessjas.

I don't know if you were notified of my last response but, in case you weren't, I'll recap... having dealt with Apple Support on the nuemrous and varied Mail problems I was having, the fix they gave me proved only temporary. In frustration, I downloaded Mozilla Thunderbird and have had zero problems since. This, despite the fact that Apple Support said the problem was probably to do with my settings, which are exactly the same on Thunderbird. The new interface takes a little getting used to but my mail sends (and receives) in seconds rather than minutes now and I have the peace of mind of knowing that it is reaching its intended recipient. As a loyal Mac user of well over 20 years I never thought I'd ever use a third party mail application but since Apple refuse to acknowlege there is a problem with Mail I felt I had no choice. It may turn out to be the best thing I've ever done.

I'm so glad you guys are all having the same problem. Ok, i'm not glad, because it *****, but I feel a little more calm. To everyone with this problem, did your recipient actually get the email you tried to send? (please reply with a yes or no, so I can calm down). I was even trying to find a hacker to find this email that shows I replied, but like another user here it says it "cant find it, maybe you deleted it." I've checked every folder on my mail, both in the mac mail, the website mail (att mail) and my iphone. Its no where. The arrow shows I replied. How many of you to that point, found out your email sent?

Thank you all for your reply. Have a nice evening and good luck with the emails.

After reading these messages, I did two things:

1) BCC myself on all outgoing messages

2) Turn off "save drafts on server"

Since doing that a few weeks ago, I haven't had any problems -- all sent messages show up in my sent folder. I don't know which of these actions helped. I've almost built enough confidence to turn off the BCC and see if things are still good, which would point to action #2 as being the one that helped.

If anyone else does more experiments with these, please reply.
