MAC Mail not saving all sent items

Hi,

I'm using OS X 10.6.7 and using MAC Mail over an IMAP connection.

For some reason this particular MAC Mail is not saving / recording all sent emails. The recipient is receiving them all so they've definitely been sent, but they're not appearing in the sent items / sent folders.

I have tried exactly the same IMAP account on another OS X 10.6.7 mac and ALL emails appear in the sent items.

It seems there is a fault / bug with the MAC Mail. Is there any hotfixes out there or any steps to try to ensure evry sent email is logged / saved in the sent folders?

Thanks

Chris

I don't know if this solution is mentioned yet, 44pages..
But it worked for me:

- In your inbox folder, create a new folder named: Send Messages
- Select the folder "Send Messages"

- Go to Mailbox -> Use this mailbox as -> Send mailbox

- Send a test mail and see if it will appear in the "Send Messages" mailbox!

Hope this will work for you!

I have my mail forwarded from my IMAP account to my Apple Mail POP account. Only with the Apple Mail account am I experiencing this problem of missing sent mail: in the IMAP account, the data is visible.

Also, the junk folder system has gone completely awry: mail from people in my address books—including some who write me daily—are going to junk on the Apple Mail account, but not on the IMAP account.

I'm doing a great deal of double work, checking to ensure work I've authored is truly sent, and what's in junk isn't something I need review.

I hope there's a workaround for this, in the next OS—or, better, a cleaner build of Mail.

Any solutions?

This problem is recent, within the past couple of weeks.

Chris,

I have nearly the exact problem. The only thing I have noticed is it only seems to happen with the first email I have sent out. I can have the mail program open for awhile and do other things but when I write a new email and send it, it doesn't show up in Sent. It also happens if my first email is a Reply. I have to write to the person I sent the email to and ask them to forward it back to me so I have a copy!

All subsequent emails are saved in my Sent folder.

I cannot yet consistently repeat the problem. Saving the mail in the Sent folder works 95% of the time.

I think because it is the first email I send out it catches me off guard. I usually open the mail program and start typing a new email, send it and then go about doing other things, then later I realize it's gone. I even check the online mail at me.com and it's never there either.

This all started maybe 2-3 months ago.

i have the same problem!

i have multiple imap accounts and this only started happening after the 10.6.8 update.

it is hugely affecting my work! it is really bad not to be able to refer to my sent message, i often need to read over what i have told someone specifically, and in my business it is CRITICAL to retain proof of what was said.

i am really disliking this 😟 and to see the issue has gone unsolved and unanswered for so long ... very disappointed in apple over this.

I was a diehard Thunderbird user, and just recently started using Mail. Today, I needed to find a sent mail from one of my mailboxes, and there were only 2 sent messages! Fortunately, all I needed to do was to open Thunderbird, and within a few minutes, I could find all my sent messages. There are many things that I have come to prefer about Mail but there are a few shortcomings. In addition to the sent mail issue, there is also the the lack of a Templates folder for those emails that you have to send out frequently. I've become used to copy and paste instead, and manage my templates in Thuderbird from time to time. It's kind of disappointing that Mail isn't perfect.

Okay, here is a new twist. I was in iPhoto and decided to share a photo. iPhoto opened the mail program as usual but when I went to add the recipient address it would not pull up the autofill like it usually does. So I manually entered the email address and sent the message. whooosh! Well, guess what...it was gone. Never got sent, never saved and no notice that there was a problem. By all appearances it was sent but that was not the case.

It was an easy thing to retype a new message since it was not a very long winded email. I post this here because I think it all relates to this problem of sent emails disappearing.
