What is MacScan 2?

I have had spyware issues that I had help in resolving. However, I came across this MacScan 2 folder in applications. What is MacScan 2? Is it from Apple or another spyware? Should I purchase an anti virus software and if so what kind?

P.S. I am somewhat computer illiterate, so please when answering questions, talk in laymen's terms! Thanks

MacScan is for finding malware on your computer's hard drive. Not viruses, malware. It's not from Apple.

2.8 appears to be the latest version.

A good way to find out information a utility such as this is to do a search in Apple Support Communities.

This is the results of a MacScan search.
