ProRes is only available with Final Cut Studio and a couple of other pro apps, not Express. It's available for playback with QuickTime, but not for encoding.
okay.. my problem is that I have a friend who wants me to convert some files for him.. he already got Final Cut Studie.. so is it possible then to Convert video files using streamclip batch, to apple prores 422?
No. He has to do the conversion if he wants ProRes.
okay, but why can that be?
Can streamclip "see" that you don´t have Final Cut studio on your mac, or why can´t i do when a mac with final cut studio can??
maybe its a stupid question, but I just don´t understand why?
and thank you so much Tom for correspond on all my questions:D
Streamclip is basically a front end for QuickTime. When you install FCS a package of codecs get installed into QuickTime, DVCPROHD, XDCAM, XDCAM HD, ProRes 4444, ProRes HQ, ProRes, ProRes LT, ProRes Proxy, probably some others. If they're in QuickTime, Streamclip can use them, if they're not, Streamclip can't.
You could convert them to Apple Intermediate Codec (assuming you are capturing HDV or AVCHD) which he would be able to use.
The AIC is a forerunner of ProRes, theoretically not quite as good but it's still fine.
