Can I replace my 1440x900 LCD screen with a 1680x1050 screen?

I have a PB G4, 17" A1107, with 1.67GHz, 2GB, Double Layer Superdrive, and 1440x900 display.

The display has developed 8 vertical lines of different colors.

These lines are not visible on the external LCD connected via the DVI port. So, that

pretty much rules out the video ram as the source of the lines.

That leaves the LCD itself, and the LVDS data cable.

What I would like to do is replace the LCD with a high resilution one of

1680x1050.

Assuming there is nothing wrong with the LVDS data cable, will

the high res lcd panel work in my A1107?

Thanks for your exprt help.

The logic board?

You mean the ATI 9700 graphix chip with 128MB Video Ram, right?

My G4 has the same graphics chip and video ram as the A1139 with

the 1680x1050 lcd panel. So, what are you basing your over-general

statement of "the logic board"?

The internal layout? I am not changing the internal layout.

You obviously have never opened an A1139, nor an A1107.

You would NEVER tell the difference between them. They are

identical except for user selected options like how much ram,

dual layer or single layer dvd drive, has wireless or not, has

1440x900 or 1680x1050 panel.... those kind of differences.

But otherwise they are identical.

I am not saying I would go ahead and do it, and **** the torpedos.

I was hoping to see if someone has some real experience of having done it

or tried to do it, and share that experience with some hard technical facts.

Allright. I'm simply repeating information I have picked up along the way, but I'm no expert and I'm usually wrong. There are many here that have way more expertise and experience than I do.

I'll just say I'm not unfamiliar with the insides of my Macs. I've replaced an LVDS cable, a screen, a DC-inverter board and more than one hard drive. I've even replaced the logic board on my old TiBook. And that's just my personal Macs.

If you look in my signature you'll see I own both an A1013 and an A1139. So you're right. I've not looked inside those machines. I've spent most of my time in my own.
