Charging Warning Message and Sign

I'm using recently purchased power adapters to charge my iPhone 3GS. Now I'm getting a warning message with a large yellow warning triangle that "Charging is not supported by this accessory." I stopped using them but the message still appears on the screen even when I'm not charging the phone. Any suggestions?

Closely inspect the dock connector on the bottom of your iPhone. If you find dirt/lint there use a soft brush and clean it.

I turned off the iphone, then cleaned the docking port with a soft toothbrush, then used a spray can of compressed air to blow away any accumulated dust/debris. I plugged in the new adapter (that was causing the warning sign) and the charging worked ok without the warning sign. Jury's still out so if I have no further problems with charging using these new accessories then I guess the problem was solved.
