Broken Headphones, Free Replacement? (Under Warranty)

My apple headphones supplied with my iPod have died on me, other headphones work fine with my iPod and these headphones do not work on any other device after trying them with my PC and Mac. As I purchased my iPod within a year are my headphones under warranty? If so how do I replace them? I searched the support centre but I struggled to find any queries that match my own. They were not succeptible to water damage as I always leave them in my home, in addition they haven't been trodden on or physically damaged, so through no fault of my own they have broken, surely this means I can recieve a replacement free of charge? I was dissapointed to initially recieve the standard headphones once I purchased my iPod rouch 4G and not the mic/remote headphones, now these standard headphones have broken I'm a little frustrated to be frank, thanks for your time.
