you can only rent content on the second generation appletv, and there is no music rental store - thus "music" does not appear as an option on the home screen.
US users will have "TV Shows" on the home screen, as they have the ability to rent TV shows as well as Movies.
Thanks for that. Although you can buy films, so it's not strictly rental only. I am amazed that Apple have omitted this, what about music videos? So in some ways Apple TV 1 is more capable than Apple TV2?
No you can't buy movies (or anything) on ATV2. There is no user accessible hard-drive, it is streaming only, thus no purchases.
The feedback they received was that people were confused with the syncing concept in relation to ATV1 so they removed the hard-drive and lowered the cost. I prefer the new model but that's based on my experience and having no use for the drive aspect.
AppleTV is silver, AppleTV 2 is black.
You can only rent movies on AppleTV2 - purchases must be through iTunes.
Yes, in some ways AppleTv is more capable than AppleTV2 - for AppleTV2 the computer has to be on running iTunes for local streaming which is how I used to use the Apple TV 1 most of the time anyway.
There are handy features of AppleTV1 not replicated in AppleTV2 as yet and new features in AppleTV2 that we'll never see in AppleTV1.
