Dropped phone in water, screen is black but sound still works

I dropped my phone in water but I pulled out quickly. It worked for a few minutes then screen went black but still heard when I got emails. I put it in rice and on the second day the screen showed that it needed charging so when I plugged it up the start up apple came on but then when it got to the main screen, it was black still but the sound still worked.

Does this mean that I should still keep it in the rice or does this mean that something else is wrong like it shorted out?

Please help!

Depends how wet you got your phone the less amount of water it was submerged in the less amount of days. If you had dropped it into a body of water and was in for 1 min or so I would let it dry in rice for the most of 2 days the longer submerged the longer you sit to dry. But if it still doesn't work after a week or more of drying then time for a new phone.

Okay, so I just took it out and it turned on, I could see the screen and everything. I tried to check a couple emails then it went black again. I put it back in the rice. Is this a good sign? Should I leave it in the rice, tomorrow will be the third day in the rice. Or should I just give up and cough up $200 to get another?

You can try to dry it out more, however, I think it is shorted out.

BTW, if you recently bought the phone new from AT&T the $200 price you paid is probably the subsidized price. The unsubsidized price for a replacement iPhone is much, much higher. You can try to get your carrier to sell you an iPhone at the subsidized price. I don't know of any program that will allow you to buy another one at $200 before the term of your current contract expires. Maybe your carrier will give you a break though. Good luck.
