I have used infoxhead for 4 years and it's a vital part of my work and research. Recently my hard disk crashed and I had to do a re-build. In the process the infoxhead application which was registered (I have all the detail) will only activate with the SAVE function disenabled.

I followed the earlier link to download a new application as a trial which is presently working OK however apparently this only lasts - with a 15 day 'save' period.

As the company is now defunct can I get round this in any way, or can I get a functional licensed application anywhere? (I'm quite happy to pay).

I thought about downloading every 16th day, but I guess after 1 go it will not release to my IP address maybe?

Any help would be so welcome ...

Thank you

Do you/did you have a backup?

I found that these folders and files are all you need to transfer a fully working version to another computer (including registration):

Folders:

/Library/Application Support/xhead/info.xhead/

/Users/username/Library/Application Support/info.xhead/

/Users/username/Library/Application Support/xhead/

File:

/Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.xhead.info2.plist

Or am I forgetting something?

It's a real shame that xhead is no longer around or supporting info.xhead. It's a great little app and I still use it on both Lion and Snow Leopard (one of the reasons I haven't upgraded to Lion on my MBP). My "workaround" is to backup to MobileMe and to a file very frequently, pretty much every time I enter something. It means frequent manual syncing, but I feel confident that nothing will be lost forever.

I too would be interested to hear about a replacement application. I don't think 1Password is the right solution because info.xhead isn't focused on entering my passwords, just on saving a database. I use it almost as a way to take notes to myself regarding bank accounts, etc.

I've heard that you can create entries within the Keychain Access, which is built into OS X. I believe that Keychains are synced with iCloud, and thus the files will go with you anywhere. But is there an easy way to export info.xhead into the Keychains?

I just downloaded the trial of mSecure, but the interface is pretty crap. Also, it did a horrible job of importing my files from info.xhead (exporting as CSV). I'll try Wallet and see how it does.

Obviously, I'm trying to avoid re-entering every item in the database. As for price, I'm ok paying $20 or $25 for something which is pretty darn important in my computing life.

is there anything new out there now to replace infoXhead

that people are satisfied with ?

i am looking for an app that will allow you to modify and and fields

too many of the apps are very limited with the amount of items you can have

unfortunately my old version of infoXhead is now corrupted

and i will have to type in all the info from a pdf that i was able to save and back up

and i do not want to upgrade from 10.6.8 until i have something else

thanks

Sadly, Wallet has been discontinued. The founders were hired by Facebook a while back. I noticed this when they failed to update the Wallet app for iOS — it still has the old iOS 6-style keyboard which looks glaring in comparison to that of iOS 7.

I recently moved to 1Password, but the transition has been slow. Unlike Wallet, 1Password does not have an easy way to transition fields in each category. (Wallet's "elastic band" feature was great, and I really found it easy to import data such as that from Info.xhead). I'm slowly updating my 1Password database because at the moment the data is all jumbled up from the import from Wallet. Everything imports as a "Login", but all the info is there, somewhere.

Wallet is still available and functional, but it's not being updated or improved. Not sure if they would, for example, update in response to a change in Dropbox sync behaviour, but generally speaking, it's over. I was saddened to learn this as well, but at least I could export the data and take it to 1Password (clumsyness not withstanding.)

what will replace info xHead ?
