Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Macbook Pro 2010 Crashes with a black screen when under heavy graphical load.

It loops any sounds that were playing and all keys are unresponsive. Only way to stop is a hard restart. I have already tried repairing permissions both with the Disk Utility under OSX AND with the installer CD. I noticed that this also happens in safe mode. This occurs in applications such as Starcraft II, Microsoft Powerpoint, and Half Life 2. I am a college student and unable to gain acces to an Apple Store so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I have boot camp installed (I have read that having boot camp on another partition may cause this problem). Yes the error occurs when under the OSX environment, I have the most up to date software updates. Here is an error code produced after my hard restart (if it helps):

Try running your hardware tester once.

OK, if you can still get it to do it in Safe Mode with extensions turned off, you may have an issue with the graphics circuit acting up. Your logic board would need to be replaced in that case. Are you under warranty yet?

I have had this happen IN SAFE MODE, if anything, I would say it is becoming worse and worse as time goes on. Sometimes I might SIMPLY have my Itunes visualizer (or even a screensaver) going and BOOM the screen goes black and the LAST sound that occured goes into a loop with the entire computer becoming unresponsive. I am under warranty for another couple of months; however, as a college student, there is no Apple Store nearby. I will take my Mac to the Apple Store ASAP, I hope that they can fix this problem soon!

I'm having this exact same problem, and it's driving me crazy. I've had many things trigger the error, but the most common are using PPT 2011 for Mac, PPT 2010 for Windows in a Win7 VM under Parallels 6, and plugging in an external monitor (doesn't matter what kind of monitor it is). I've run the Apple Hardware Test in extended mode, and no errors were found. I need to schedule a Genius Bar appointment to have this looked at.

I'm having the exact same issue and have tried EVERYTHING. I've run a hardware test, checked and repair permissions, run the disk utility for everything imaginable. I've also erased and installed everything again to see if that would have an effect, it then ran well for maybe half of a day and began to crash again a couple hours later.

Have any of you actually gone into the store and had them look at it? I'm wondering how much trouble they give you and if they were actually able to fix it. I'm still under warranty and I need to go in for an appointment within the next few days before my classes start again for fall. Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I'm also suffering with this problem. and after Mountain Lion intallation it came back again ... I was just thinking about why the **** I decided to install it. I can just not work.

If it seems to be a problem with MB mid 2010 sold in Germany. I bought mine in Frankfurt am Main.

it seems that quite a lot people affected by this.... I propose to solve it in a German Way:

Lets meet everybody in front of a Apple Store to a protest ! We can go everybody in a specific day/time. We need to be united. They must to do something collectively.

Please, if you want to attend the event send a replay
