DVD_RTAV Folder saying "you don't have permission to see its contents" HELP!

Hi Community,

I have bee going thrugh internet posts for an hour! Tried everything. On a DVD there is a folder called DVD_RTAV. On the bottom right of that folder us that little red circle with the white bar in it. I cannot open, nor can I change its name and so on.

1) VLC does not play

2) I have copied the folder to my desktop but that does not make any difference.

3) I have bought Toast Titanium, as some forums said Toast can read an convert this file, but Toast said, the format is not supported

If anybody has a good idea how to get that dam thing to play - I would be grateful !!!

Bye

DVD_RTAV folders are usuially created by DVD camcorders or stand-alone DVD recorders. Most of these devices have two recording choices; "Video" mode and "VR" mode. When the device records in VR mode, a non-standard DVD is created and the disc will not play in most other DVD players or DVD playing software.

I'm not sure how you'd convert a VR recorded disc to a standard DVD, but I think if you had a DVD recorder with an internal hard drive from the same manufacturer as the one that made the disc, you could copy the disc's contents to the hard drive, then create a new disc in "Video" mode. The only way to know if this method would work would be to conduct some tests to find out.

Alternatively, you could play the disc you already have in a DVD player from the same manufacturer (or ideally in the device that actually made the disc) and connect the analog outputs of that device to a qualified DV device (DV camcorder, VTR or converter). The DV device would then be connected to your Mac via Firewire and you could use FCE to capture the footage as it played (using the "DV Convert" capture setting in FCE).
