Charles, go to apple store by taking an appointment. There is a Good chance that you might get a new replacement iPad. I smashed my iPhone's screen yesterday and apple store gave me a replacement one for free of cost.

I got an iPad 1 for my autistic son and he cracked the screen. I am going to the Apple Store tomorrow and see if I can get it replaced. Even if it is a minimal cost it would be better than buying a new one. I got it for him about a month and a half ago so maybe I will be lucky.
