EDIT: Didn't realize you were on Windows 7. DeTune is a Mac only program.
The music that I want to transfer from my phone to itunes was downloaded from CD's not purchases.
Here's a completely free version (I think that first link was to the trial)

One of the reasons why your iTunes library should be included with your computer's backup along with all other important data. The iPhone is not designed or intended to be a backup storage device.
Sounds like more than a crash if data was lost. Did you lose all data, or just your iTunes library?
ITunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store from an iPod, iPad, and iPhone, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only.
First you need to re-authorize your computer with your iTunes account with iTunes if you haven't already done so.
With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
He says the music is from CDs, so the "Transfer Purchases" option won't work.
If you check the time of my post, it was after he posted this before I saw it.
Oh, sorry.
FYI, I'm a girl!!
Any other suggestions??
Did the second program work?

Sorry to hear that your comp crashed.
Try this tutorial to get the music from your iphone/ipod
Well, then I'll keep on synching my iPhone with my old PC.. People around me did not believe it that it was not possible to upload music from an iPhone to a PC lol
Apple really helps the users..
CopyTrans is all you need!
Why couldn't Apple just treat iPhones and iPods like normal external hard drives or memory cards visible for two way transfers.
Authorised devices, authorised computers, multiple libraries, and so easy to sync the wrong way and wipe out everything on your device......I thought Apple was supposed to be simple?

An iPod - a non-iOS iPod can be used an external hard drive.
The same does not apply to iOS devices for security reasons.
Thanks you for that comment.
However, as an ex-IT manager, I still find it fairly tortuous to get, for example, legally ripped music from my iPhone, that I had on my iPod, in to the correct Library and device on iTunes, especially with three of us sharing computers and all having iPhones. The auto sync is a liability as it seems very easy to overwrite your device by accident (and yes, I do use manual sync settings).
Why have to hold 'shift' to get the Library you want? Why not just a simple option when iTunes opens?
By the sheer amount of information on the net, these are not simple devices to store or copy files between.
Finally....why on Earth have the left/right balance hidden in accessibility and not (also?) in Music settings...crazy!
