Why isn't autoplay of youtube videos not running in the background of Safari? It works fine in Firefox or Chrome, but in Safari, everytime a video is done, I have to make the youtube tab active for it to start playing the next video in the playlist. I'm pretty sure this is a bug in Safari and has not been fixed for a long long time.. Is there a way to get this working? Any extensions? Please help.

Well the trick of dragging the tab to a new Safari ,window works, for a better fix, go to Preferences> Security > Internet Plugins> Plug in settings. Choose the Adobe Flash Player> Configured Websites> Choose the Option 'On' for Youtube or any other website you are facing a problem for.
Obviously you need the Adobe Flash Player installed first in Safari.
It worked for me after a lot of Google search, which yielded results for only how to do it on the Iphone for 99% of the times. Found this thread for doing it on Mac after a lot of time.
Most YouTube content requires the Flash plugin. Try uninstalling then reinstalling the plugin then restart your Mac.

I have the same problem on my mac! youtube is not working on safari or firefox. i check pop up blockers, reinstalled flash player after installing the flash player uninstaller....any suggestions?
Any kind of youtube video just shows up as a black box. It is happening with both firefox and safari. This problem just began today. In a matter of less than an hour, it stopped working. Updating flash didn't help.
Check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. If you have any installed, turn that off, quit then relaunch Safari, try a video.
And empty the Safari cache also.
Hi, I have encountered the same problem when the youtube page is running on a background tab in safari. However, I find a alternative way to deal with this bug. I just draw that youtube tab out of safari to make it running in a seperate safari window without any other tabs in this window. In this way, it can autoplay the next video when it running background.

Thanks for bringing that up. Given that this is a chronicle issue I wonder why the Safari dev team has not fixed it.
try going to Safari Preferences and uncheck the box where it says "Stop plugins to save power".
