right now i have only 512 MB of RAM in my ibook G4 and i am trying to find the right RAM to upgrade and i think the most compatible is the 1.25 GB configuration because i have 256 built in and the previous owner had added another 256 in removable.

There were two iBook G4's that came with 256Mb on board and for either model you are correct in that you can fit an additional 1Gb card, (after removing what is in there)
The specification is,
1.0GB (1024MB) PC2100 DDR 266MHz 200 Pin So-DIMM
and also the other higher speed PC2700 will also work but will only run at your iBook's maximum speed of 266Mhz.

There were actually eight iBook G4 models that came with the 256 MB onboard, roam. Five of them were 14-inch models; three were 12-inch models.
Thanks Ronda. I think the OP is still OK as the 256Mb onboards of both the 12" or 14" all took the same RAM spec, as far as i can tell from Mactracker.
