iPad headphone jack not working

Recently during an airplane flight I wanted to listen to my iPad with headphones. No sound. The iPad's internal speaker works just fine. In the car, I hooked a recharge/line out adapter and still no sound. This has never happened before. After some experimentation I found a reliable fix: start up Skype. For some reason it fixes everything. iOS 4.3.3

Suddenly last week, my earphones wouldn't work with my iPhone. At the Apple store, I waited about an hour for the Genius Bar. The genius flicked a setting and all was OK. I felt dumb, but I left with my ear phones working. Thinking the problem would never recur, I forgot what the fix was, and yesterday, the problem happened again. So for the first time ever, I went to this help exchange. Skype??? I couldn't believe it. But I really did not want to go back to the Apple Store, so I installed the Skype app, plugged in the earphones, and , they work! (BTW, this was not the Apple Genius solution.) No idea why the Skype fix works, but Thank You.

I have a smilar problem. I have new ipad.

With earphone there is no problem, every sound workd well with earphone.

But when I unplug the earphone, ipad does not undersatnd that the earphone jack is unplugged. When I decrease or increase the sound level while the earphone is unplugged, it still controls only headphone mode (not sound effects mode)

I plugged-unplugged earphone several times, reset etc. But still I can not solve the problem:(

Try this

I discovered a setting that had the sound turned all the way to the right earphone. Moving it to the center position solved the issue for me. I had been having the same trouble and replaced my iPad twice and each time i restored from iCloud the problem returned.

Solution for me was going to:

Settings

General

Accessibility

Hearing

L & R level to the center position.

btimes,

thanks so much.

I've tried what you suggested, but still no sound. I decided to just load it as a new ipad and try installing one app at a time. Although I didn't find anything wrong with all the apps, but at least now there is SOUND! But whenever I re-install from backup, the sound will go off after a few hours. Not sure what is the cause but at least it's solved now.

Thank you once again 🙂

I got this from another website and it worked for me:

I just found out how to solve this problem.

You will need to reset your iPad.You will probably want to do a backup of your content before you do this. There was no loss of content when I did it, but it never hurts to be overly careful.

Go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings

That's it! The iPad will reset and the headphone jack will work every time.

At least, that is what happened to me. I was pretty excited to have found the solution.

Best of luck.

I haven't finished reading through this thread but just yesterday I had the same problem. Have you tried restarting the iPad? thats what I did and it's working fine again.

but if that doesn't help, take it to a cellphone repair place and have them look at it. Or find an Apple Store near you and ask them about it. Make an appointment at you local Genius Bar. im sure you'll find a solution there.

IF that doesn't work, I'd save up for a new iPad and make sure to back up everything on your current iPad. That way you can load it onto the new one.

Good luck, I hope this helped! 🙂
