Mac App Store is Damaged or Incomplete?

I tried opening the Mac App Store but it wasn't working, so I deleted it, then I couldn't re-install it so I took it out of the trash. Now when I try to open it it says "Cannot open App Store because it may be damaged or incomplete" How do I fix this?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

Hi.... I am having the same problem... but am currently on Lion OS X 10.7.4.... My mac wouldnt run the update combo 10.6.7 as it says you need to have os version 10.6.7...

That's good, because you don't have 10.6.7.

Boot into your Lion Recovery volume, repair your hard disk and repair your permissions.

If you still have problems, please start your own thread. This thread is different and solved. Hijacking it with your question will ensure that no one will give you a good answer.

My answer applied to 'Snow Leopard' OS X 10.6 only.

Since you're using the newer 'Lion' OS X 10.7, the procedure I detailed does not apply to Lion.

Here is a link to the current Lion OS X 10.7.4 Combo update. It's huge, 1.4GB, so downloading will take a while.

If that doesn't work, perhaps this Lion Recovery page would help:

I'm not on Lion, so I can't offer much assistance.

Most threads I found about reinstalling Lion depend upon the App Store working in order to re-download and reinstall, and obviously that won't help when the App Store is not working.

JerryApple,

Try the 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399

Any popular search engine can locate most any recent download link to Apple if you use the search terms of the update you want, for example 'OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo'

Less-trustworthy individuals and organizations might try to 'hijack' traffic with links to unfriendly sites and programs such as MacKeeper, so be certain that any Apple download link you open includes "http://support.apple.com", as the link mentioned above illustrates.
