In just purchased iPad 2. When I try turn off my iPad it will not close down. My screen becomes black and the little circle continues to spin. The only way I can get it started again I have to let the battery go dead! Then charge it again. This has happen to me at least four times in less then two Months. Has anyone experience that?

My iPad1 would not turn off either and the same little circle spun for about 10 minutes. Then I held down both the power button and the home button for about ten seconds and the white apple reappeared indicating a reset.

Mine has been spinning now for a couple of hours. I guess I'll wait until the battery runs out. It froze on an email Saturday evening and I read in tech support to hold down the top button until the red slider appears then slide it to reset. All I get is the spinning circle.
Don't wait until the battery runs down. Perform the hard reset as suggested.
Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears, ignore the red slider, let go of the buttons.

Don't shut down this thread. I was just having a panic attack because my iPad 2 had the same problem but due to this thread it is now fixed and I am feeling so relieved. My problem started with my email account going blank and not opening so I decided to power off to see if it would reset. Unfortunately it never powered off so this thread has helped considerably and my email account is back on track....for now. Thanks heaps!
If the OP marks the post as "correct" then other users will see that the issue has been resolved and they might find their own solution in the thread. It does not shut the thread down - it just lets other people know that the problem has been solved.
When I do a search on this site for a question that I have, I always filter the search with "solved" responses first. after all, if you are looking for a solution, you want to see correct answers!

Doubt that you will read this agin but go to the original thread that YOU possted and mark the question as answered even if you give yourself the correct answer. Just shut the thread.
I am having the same problem. Tried holding the sleep and home buttons, no luck. I assume my only solution is to wait for the battery to run out. The problem started when I tried to turn it off because my mail wasn't loading. I really need my calendar so hope I can fix this soon.
Phew!! But why is it that it happens after the mail won't work? I'm glad its fixed but I wanna know why!!!!????
