Does this occur when you connect something to the phone, or when nothing is connected? If it happens when nothing is connected you have dirt or moisture in the dock connector (or more rarely, a bent pin). You should clean the connector with an air blast or soft dry toothbrush. This is NOT a software problem.

If it occurs when certain devices are connected it is likely the device is not compatible with the iPhone.

I am getting same error message-and only when my phone is being charged-using both OEM and 3d party charger- the same ones I have used since I bought the Iphone 3GS 2 years ago and this is happening 2 years later. Have not recently updated the software either

I did use an air duster to blow out any residue that may be stuck in pins.

Any ideas? Same old charger, same old software, the only thing I can think of is a bent pin. Looked at them w/magnifier and didnt see an obvious issues .

The problem is that it is charging VERY SLOWLY and does not get to a full charge overnight

thanks

I have had the same problem and mine is WITH the Apple charger that came in the box with my iPhone. It connects perfectly to my radio charger just not with the cable.. I might have to go to the apple store and see what they say.

Or you could do what most others have done to fix the problem, as described in the message thread you posted to. Carefully clean the connector on the cable and the phone, and try a different cable. As soft dry toothbrosh works well.

I think I have solved my same issue, (msg: charging is nt supported with this accessory).

I just used another plug in the house and I no longer get the error message-recd a very informative email that explains that the Iphone needs a certain minimum electrcal standard to actually charge the unit.

Since I understand that the average electric plug is not at all voltage regulated/nor has a standarized min output, this made sense to me. We all know that power to computers needs to be consistent and clean

Unofrtunately I cant put my finger on the link just now, but I thought Id send a post so you could all try it - (another plug that is) after using a diff electrical plug I ahve not had another problem

I like many others now have this problem after "upgrading" to OS 5. Try right clicking on the device name visible at the left hand side of iTunes window. This should bring up a pop up menu with the option of "reset warnings" at the bottom. Click this and if you will get a message "you have changed your device settings, do you want to update?" say no. Presto change-o device will now charge. Works for me anyway.

Can please Apple explain this thing here and I am sure that I am not the only one experiencing it.

Why I kept on having this "Charging is not supported with this accessory" with the Yellow sign on top of it. While the usb cable comes along with the BRAND NEW iPhone box which I bought last month. I already tried system upgrade, resetting it, and even forced restart.

What I don't understand is that the USB CABLE came along with it and that is not a 3rd party cable I suppose.

It makes me sad now that I have 100% believe in Apple. How come now these things happening?????

I notice that I get this when I let the battery drop very low, but not when I use the same set up and the battery is mostly charged. Happens with original 10W charger and sync cable, but never when it is plugged into the USB port of my MBP. It does seem to trickle charge when it gives the error about not not supported accessory. Very frustrating.
