iCaht doesn't quit, but video and audio stops and disconnects

I have a brand new iMac G5 and so does my Mom. We both have the iSight camera imbedded in the iMac, both have high speed cable internet but cannot iChat for more than a few minutes without the video/audio chat stopping.

This is what connection doctor says on my end:
2006-01-09 19:44:03 -0800: No data has been received for the last 10 seconds. (X's added to hide IP address, don't know if this is necc. but better save than sorry)
Audio channel info: local machine using 192.168.1.XXX:16386, expecting remote machine to send to 68.6.88.XXX:16386
Video channel info: local machine using 192.168.1.XXX:16384, expecting remote machine to send to 68.6.88.XXX:16384

We both have AIM screen names and .mac accounts and neither work any better than the other. Also, we have both downloaded Broadband Tuner 1.0 - didn't help. My mom is crushed that she can't video chat with her grandkids.

Hope someone can help. Thanks!!

I have Cox broadband, a Surfboard SB3100 modem, a linksys BEFSR41 router and a separate linksys WAP11 wireless access point. I am connected via Airport to the linksys wireless. My mom is with Adelphia and on the ethernet connection. I think we've identified it as my issue as I tested iChat using the appleu3test01 video and had the same problem. Don't have any other connectivity issues and have tried iChat with no other machines online...

Any ideas? Thanks again!!

First, I would try connecting your computer directly to the cable modem, and then test your iChat video connections from that configuration.

Your router and access point are pretty old, I think, so I would be sure you have the latest firmware in each of them.

After updating or verifying that you have the latest firmware, look to enable a UPnP setting in the Linksys router (if it is available). I would then try a video conference connection while bypassing the wireless access point by cable-connecting your computer directly to the Linksys router. If this works, you can try adding back the wireless connection.

Most of the time, the best way to troubleshoot a problem is to try to eliminate as many causes as possible, and then proceed from there. Otherwise, a lot of time can be wasted barking up the wrong tree.
