How do you guys get those cool moving animations

adblock extension is very easily customized to block specific elements, just ctrl-click & follow the prompts - a resulting filter would be specific to discussions & a particular image, so the usual suspects are readily dispatched without risk of blocking anything that one might actually want to see. http://safariadblock.com/

I'm using Adblock Plus in Firefox, but added a rule there and -- no offence meant to the toad -- that toad, above (animated at least) is now history. Much more bearable. Now on to the real offenders.

I wonder if I can find an extension to remove all the cute kittens calendars in the world. On to world domination! (Makes me want to post a link to the great cat juggling scene in "The Jerk.") Thanks Andy.

Establishing filters for the offenders in ABP has not only killed the animations, but nuked the images, as well -- replaced with a non-working link. This is very good news.

For some reason, ABP will only stop the toad, above, not nuke it completely.

Care to share how to set up that rule? I've got AdblockPlus and FF, but wouldn't know how to add a rule just for animated gif's in these discussions.

you need the url of the image, not of the page that shows it.

Use ctrl-click + 'copy image address', or open image in new window' to check it, then copy the address

or you can just drag them into the message window

I already said I find unobjectionable, and even possibly enjoyable, the occasional use of a small, animated .gif. It's the permanent, especially huge ones that knock you over the head I can't stand.

Are you on the page where the toad appears? If not, it won't appear in the list. Perhaps, you were looking for it with the current page displayed? You can always open blockable items and enter toad, or whatever, in the search field. If I search for "toad" here, I get "No blockable items" reported. But, using Search, it shows up on the page where the execrable, amphibious vaudevillian appears.

Some of these things you really need to comb through to find. There's usually a long list in a quite small font in a small window down at the bottom of the page. Some pop out at you right away, but others aren't found so easily. And the Search field won't help if you don't know what to search for.

Unless you have some completely weirded-out ABP, you should see it.

Yes I was; as I said, the hammock appeared as well as your little jumping smiley, but not the frog! Maybe ABP was suffering from a migraine or something...... I may try it again later when I have more time.
