Account hacked - fraudulent credit card?

My husband received 7 emails saying they were from Itunes. Each was saying he'd purchase a $10 Itunes giftcard for me. When he logged into his Itunes account, his name and email were correct but the address had been changed and so had the credit card. Our card was gone and it listed a Mastercard. We do not have a Mastercard. We thought one of a few things may be going on. The emails contained links to sites with a virus or to get our personal info or someone was using our Itunes account (but not our credit card?) or someone has a Mastercard in my husbands name. Has anyone had something like this happen to them? We've emailed Apple because they won't deal with this type of issue on the phone. No response yet.

I've not heard of this specific circumstance, and it's pretty strange. It may be that someone stole a credit card number, managed to crack your iTunes Store account, and used it to get iTunes prepaid cards that they could use or sell. But that's just a guess.

If your husband hasn't done so already, he should make note of the bogus credit card information (all information he can find; a screen shot of the the information would also be a good idea), then remove it and change his iTunes Store password, making sure the password is something that's not easy to guess or find via an Internet search (names of children and pets are not a good idea, for instance).

Unless the intruder charged something to your bank account or drained a credit balance your husband had in his iTunes Store account, there's probably nothing else that the iTunes Store will suggest, since you won't have been impacted financially, though they may disable the account due to the hack.

Regards.

The same type thing happened to me on May 23, 2011!!! I got emailed 2 $50 certificates from iTunes - but I didn't buy them and NOONE else has access to my account. I logged in to iTunes and like you, the shipping address was changed and there was a credit card that not's mine but the CID # is not there so I can't make any purchases!?! I have gotten an email from Apple but they were mistakenly thinking the certificates were charged on my credit card. I've corrected them in my last email but have not heard back yet. I'm just not comfortable putting my credit card info in there again even though I've changed my password.

Same thing happened to me. I got 2 emails on May 27th, 2011 - receipts for $50 gift cards that weren't charged to my Visa but to some random credit card. When I went through the process of reseting my Apple ID, I saw that, though my phone/email info was correct, there was some random woman's info in the name/mailing address fields. The credit card info was also not my own. So so shady! I don't want to put my real credit card info back in either. I'm waiting on Apple's response now.

I never received an iTunes email, but just woke up and received an email saying my billing address and credit card had been changed! I logged in and ONLY my city, state, and zip were changed (made no sense, as combined with my street address it was not a valid address). My credit card had also been changed to an unknown credit card number. None of my other personal info (name, phone number, etc.) had been changed. Very very very weird. I changed my password, so hopefully that will prevent further changes for now.
