iPad lock screen turns on on it's own, unnessicarily drains power when this happens. Would love a solution to this problem.

Could you describe the problem in more detail? What is the iPad doing, what do you mean by lock screen?
I will hit the sleep button on top and the screen goes black as it should. Not very long after (I'll say 5 min max) the iPad turns on as if I pressed the home button. If I don't do anything, the screen will eventually turn black again. The screen will then turn on again without touching anything.
Try this panacea first, reset the iPad: press the Home + sleep/wake buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears.
I would restore it from iTunes, setting it up a a new device because this sounds like a bug (do not restore it from the data you already have in there because that will defeat the purpose). Honestly, if you go to the Apple store, they will tell you to do the same thing. If this does not solve the issue, I would go to Apple and exchange it because it is then a problem with the device.
