I'm having this problem now, ever since I updated to the new iOS 7 on my iphone 4.  I've tried everything hard reset, soft reset, turning phone off and back on, hitting speaker repeatedlywhile in voice mail but nothig works.  This can't be a hardware issue because up until I updated the software I was not having any issues with my phone.  I've done the whole cleaning of the ear jack, making sure the phone was not in silent mode, which has never been a problem before.  I still haven't seen anyone with a solution to this problem.  Is there anyone out there with one?  It's getting really old having to turn my phone on speaker to have a conversation!!

I have a similar problem... all sounds, mic, speaker, etc work but not during calls. But I cant even hear on loudspeaker! When I receive/make a call when answered it automatically has the speaker on, but no sound. If I click it nothing happens. If I put the volume up nothing happens. If I turn on hearing mode, still nothing.

I have had this on and off.. but since Ios7 there is no solution it seams. No restarting or reseting will do.

Can someone please help, I would love to be able to make calls on the iPHONE!!

This is a very common problem, it should be either a factory recall or a "group" action.

    should read "class" action.

I had the same issue and solved it by disabling and later again enabling the Noise Cancelation. This setting can be found via Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> (Hearing) Phone Noise Cancellation.

Same thing…. No sound through earpice. I could only hear through headphones and speakers. My iPhone 5 was acting like the the headphones were plugged in when they weren’t. I could tell because when I adjusted the volume the notification said “Headphones”. I tried several things I found on this site and others. What eventually fixed it was cleaning out the charging port (lightning bolt) on the iPhone 5. Once it was cleaned the "Volume" notification would appear when I adjusted the volume buttons.

    I have the iPhone 4/ iOS 7.0.3.

I solve it by removing the SIM card and putting it again.
