Annoying Printer Window

For the one printer that I use most often, I created a desktop printer icon, so that I can drag files onto the printer icon as an easy way to print them. In OS 10.5, after I would drag a file onto the printer icon, the job would print without opening the printer window (the window that shows the printer status and queue). But in OS 10.6, when I do the same thing, the printer window opens and stays open even after the job has finished printing. I’ve looked for an option to turn off this unwanted “feature”, but I can’t find anything. I would be extremely grateful if anyone knows a hack to stop the printer window from opening.
