USB to iPad file transfer?

My wife likes to record things while traveling internationally using a little handheld recorder. She prefers this little Olympus recorder to recording with iPad or iPhone. However, the little recorder can only hold a limited amount of data, so she normally plugs it into MacBook USB port and transfers everything to MacBook when the recorder fills up.

Is it possible to buy a device that will let you go plug the recorder into it, and then move files directly to iPad, so she does not need to take MacBook on the road at all?

There was a physical gizmo we used to have (made possibly by apple?) that we could plug camera USB into, and then move photos directly into an early model iPod (to allow us to take tons of photos while traveling w/o a laptop). We tried using that same device with the recorder, but get message that "Device not supported". Is there now something similar that would allow for other file types to be transferred via USB to an iPad?

Thanks!

Mark

There is a camera connection kit for the iPad (those designed for the iPod won't work as you've noticed) : http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC531ZM/A?fnode=MTc0MjU4NjE&mco=MjE2MjgwMzc . You don't say what sort of recorder it is - video or audio ? The kit only supports the transfer of photo and video content i.e. the sort you'd get from a digital camera

Thanks - sorry - its audio content.

She prefers this little Olympus audio recorder because it is small, discreet, and it can record a LONG time on a single AAA battery. (Which is why she doesn't just record with her iPhone - she records often 8-10 hours a day.) Unfortunately, her Olympus gizmo records in WMV format, so I believe it still won't work in iTunes... (We use EasyWMA to convert to MP3 before moving it into iTunes so she can listen on iPhone or iPod.)

I was hoping there was some way that the iPad could be used just for storage, with the content pulled out later when she's back home with her MacBook?

Or does anyone make a small, portable HD that can easily offload files via USB?
