I've lost the shift 3 pound sign, only get hash, any ideas?

If this happens, you can set the keyboard back to UK by selecting it from the menu bar.

Simply click the flag icon which you will see near the wireless + bluetooth icon, then change it from the US flag to the UK flag & you keyboard should be back to normal.

If you cannot find the UK flag which indicates the option to set the keyboard to UK layout, you should be able to add the UK keyboard layout by clicking the "+" symbol & selecting it.

In that case, Susiehope should make sure the British keyboard layout is selected on her machine, that the Caps Lock key is not depressed, and that no other modifier key (Command, Option, Control, fn) is stuck in the depressed position.

What are you supossed to get. I hit shift 3.........# This is what I would expect. Do you have some special charcter/keyboard/shortcut set.

I changed the keyboard back to UK in System Prefs>Keyboard, but it didn't work.

Your tip did - i don't know how it got changed from UK to US (probably one of my kids), but soon as I changed it where you suggested I got my Shift3 £ sign back.

Incidentally, I had also lost my volume controls on keyboard, but this has re-instated them, so I am double happy.

The pound sign (£) is Option+3, not Shift+3 — assuming you're using the US keyboard layout.

The British keyboard has Shift - 3 for £ sign.
