Yamaha keyboard a good buy for garageband piano lessons?

I can buy a Yamaha PSR-225 GM keyboard for $100. It doesn't have a USB port but has a MIDI port. What kind of adaptor can I buy to convert to the USB on the computer? Also, is this a good buy for a beginner to learn a bit of piano? It is about 8 years old.

Thanks,

Paula

you need a MIDI interface:

it appears to have a lot of built in features for learning, so it will probably be a good keyboard with which to start.

to truely know, you should actually feel some keyboards to decide which features feel right (there's weighted keys, semi-weighted keys, etc), but $100 seems like an ok price (a quick search using Google show that the lowest price is around $70)

As Hangtime said, you'd need a MIDI interface. Here's a link to MIDI interfaces at Sweetwater.com, a great website for checking out gear:

One of the reasons you'd need a MIDI interface is because of the age of that keyboard. Newer keyboards often have the MIDI interface built in, so you just connect them directly to the computer over USB.

Hard to say whether you'd be happy with that Yamaha or not. It's very much a starter instrument.

How did you find the prices on the Yamaha keyboards so quickly?

google offers several "views" of the web: web, images, news, etc. one of them is "shopping."

this is what the shopping search looks like: google's search

(i don't know anything about the sellers in those search results, so should you decide to use one from that search, please do some research to be sure they are legit. the links that matt and i posted are sellers we know are reputable dealers)
