Canon EOS 500D: no tethering?

Question

Hi,using Aperture 3.1.2 / Digital Camera RAW 3.7.0 on Mac OS X 10.6.7, i can&#x27;t start a tethering session with my Canon 500D plugged in. The 500D firmware version is 1.1.0 (up to date) and is supposed to be supported (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4176). Did tethered shooting with this camera ever work? Has anything changed on the system?  If you use the Canon EOS utility software does it work?

One thing I forgot to ask, importing images from the camera works ok?With the same software 10.6.7, 3.1.2 and the latest prokit 3.7 I can shoot tethered with a canon 40d, no problems so its unfortunately nothing obvious with your setup.At this I point  I would recommend the normal Aperture troubleshooting steps. Run the library first aid (hold down the option and command keys and start aperture) Run the permission repair and library repair. Try moving the preferences file, com.apple.Aperture.plist in your Home/Library/Preferences folder to the desktop and restart Aperture.  Try creating a new empty library and try the tethered shoot and finally try creating a new user and running Aperture as that user.Depending on the results it might narrow down or fix the issue.You also might try posting the log entry to the Developer list . Ask if anyone can give you an idea as to what might be the cause.And of course i you&#x27;re still under warranty or have Apple Care give them a call.good luck let us know what happens.

Hi Franck,i followed your instructions. When i created a test account, it happened the "Start Session" menu item was not even enabled!Then i logged back on my main account, and it somehow worked. "Start Session" now works, the Tethering HUD shows up, I can take shots. However, there&#x27;s no display of the camera "Live View" , nor any way to configure the shot (aperture, shutter speed etc..). As i am new to Aperture, i don&#x27;t know if this is normal or if all the controls i have on the EOS Utility should have equivalents in Aperture?Thanks for the helpful answer!

There is no live view in Aperture when tethering you have to compose with the camera. All Aperture does is capture the image. Also you don&#x27;t get the controls you get when you use the EOS utility. What you&#x27;re seeing is normal.Glad you got it workingregards
