iPhone 3GS, iOS 4.3.2
Hi Mike,
Check out this tech article from Apple. Looks like the most common fix is to update to the latest version of iTunes. Hope this helps...
I would also add that there are a lot of people posting in here about problems with iOS 4.3.3.... It crashed my iPhone 4 last week. As I understand, most of the updates affect the iPad anyway.... you might want to give it a second thought 🙂
Make sure that your hosts file does not contain any entries that are pointing to servers other than gs.apple.com.
On Windows, the hosts file can be found here: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts.
On OSX, the hosts file can be found here: /private/etc/hosts.
Uh? What do you mean? I don't find any hosts file.
I have assumed that you are running Windows. Make sure that you have admin rights for your machine. Check under Folder Options that protected folders and files are not hidden. Make sure that you can see hidden files.
Check for the hosts file here: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts. Note that it does not have an extension. If you are using 64-bit, check under System64.
Open with Notepad (you will need admin rights). Delete any lines that refer to gs.apple.com. Save the hosts file without an extension (no .txt, etc).
Reboot your machine and try running the update again. Make sure that you are on the latest version of iTunes.
Hope this helps.
This did it! Thank you so much!
Dude 😟
it says that I can't save the changes...
hmmm What do you mean by "Deleting the Lines that refer to gs.apple.com" ?
I saw numbers in line with the gs.apple.com
Should I remove it?
Oh LORD!!
THANKS DUDE!!
It WORKS!! 🙂 weeeeee!
Hi GillianGil
Sorry to only get back to you now ... but it looks like you got it right 😉.
The gs.apple.com line was pointing iTunes to a server other than the main Apple update servers. This can happen if you use certain hack tools and you need to be careful.
Yep I did.
Thank u so much!
I have updated the itunes and still doesn't work
you are a hero! i have watched so many you tube videos and followed instructions and nothing has worked. i have been trying to fix this for months and your fix worked straight away and was probably the simplist!!! thank you v much!
