Getting numbers default date format set the same as the mac

My default mac date format is set to day/month/year (01/05/2011) but in number the defaut date is set to day/month/year (01/May/2011) why isn't it the same and is there a way to make them the same

As far as I know, Numbers default the the 2nd format, the one pointed in red, in this System Preferences Pane.
