Q: delete wrong apple ID from the appstore login

when I try to update my apps on the ipad the box that pops up has the wrong apple ID in it and I can not change it no matter what I do.  I have re set the info in the settings and when viewed there the info is correct.  When I get into the app store I still get the wrong ID no matter what I do... anyone have any suggestions

    After splitting up with my partner I kept the iMac that we originally bought jointly. I am now unable to update most apps as it requires his login details and does not give me the option to change it due to the AppleID being an un-editable field. I am hesitant to delete the apps as other threads have suggested as it would mean deleting the apps that came with the computer e.g. iMovie being the latest requiring an update. 

     

    I would appreciate advice on what to do in this situation.

    If you don't know his password, then you have no other choice than to delete the apps and re-purchase them under your own ID.

    Just ran into this with a company iPad. It was wanting to install updates to some apps, but gave me the finger, wanting an old account's password. Read through this thread and this is what worked for me...

     

    1. Uninstalled the apps installed under the old ID

     

    2. Signed out of iTunes/App Stores

     

    3. Signed back in with current ID

     

    4. Reinstalled the apps

     

    Fortunately, all of the apps on this thing are free.

    3 ******* years later and still the same problem. Are you ******* kidding me Apple? Get your thumbs out of your @sses!! I'm just glad this is my mum's phone and not mine as I would never buy into the piece of crap that is Apple. #endrant

     

    My mum's phone is doing the same stuff. When she first got it I wasn't there to set up her phone, so some twit did it for her and put his Apple account in because he probably didn't want to go through the hassle of initial setup which takes hours and hours of setting up accounts and passwords (I understand the poor guy). Fast forward 1-2 years and a couple of months ago I made my mum her own Apple ID and went through all the stuff with her. Took about 2-3 hours I kid you not (emails, FB integration, iCloud, Apple ID + security Qs, payment details, the whole package). So she received an update a couple of nights ago for iOS 8.1.2. Did the update, came back with the exact problem everyone is complaining of in this 4 year old thread that keeps on going with a 4 year old and 4 OS versions old bug that has a 10 minute developer fix time (thanks to the people in this thread with Jailbroken phones, you don't even have to look for the files that need changing)!

     

    Got 5 updates, when trying to update it asks for the password of the email of the guy that initially set up her iPhone 2 years ago. Tried everything (I am very computer literate and also have contacts that know iOS better than me) and there is nothing to be done. Needless to say I can not find the guy who did her initial setup. What now Apple? User friendly and ease of use my ***. Sometimes the more basic a software is for users the more problems you get as opposed to having advanced settings on Android which let you solve almost anything.

    What part of "purchases made with an Apple ID are forever tied to the Apple ID that they were purchased with" don't you understand? The only thing you can do is to delete the apps and re-purchase them (or if they are free, re-download them) with your Mom's Apple ID.

     

    Not sure what you are referring to in terms of the iOS 8.1.2 update.

     

    If all you are referring to is apps put onto the device by the twit that put his own Apple account on someone else's phone and then then downloaded apps on, then blame the twit that didn't do it right in the first place. It wasn't his phone. He should have set up an Apple ID for your Mom to start with. So, delete the "twit's" apps and get your mom her own versions of them that are owned by her Apple ID.

     

    If you are complaining about something else, then specify what it is.

    That's what I did in the end. But I see users who did the same and still experienced the same issue when the next update for an app rolls out. Remains to be seen if it's fixed.

     

    Somehow, the phone has worked fine throughout iOS 7 and the beginning of 8 (updated to vanilla iOS 8 about 3-4 months ago at the same time when I made my mom's Apple ID). Was able to update apps fine with her ID until I updated it to 8.1.2 about 4 days ago. That's when the issue arrived.

    Make sure those old apps are also totally removed from your iTunes library. It could be that they are re-downloading during the update. You also have the option of restoring the phone as new (Settings>Reset>Reset all Contents & Settings), then going to iTunes, signing on with your Mom's Apple ID (make sure the computer has been authorized under her iTunes sign-on, then select and sync only her purchases to her device.

     

    I have apps that I purchased eons ago under an old Apple ID, and they still are in my library. So, even if I have deleted them from my device, if I fail to de-select them during a sync, and they sync back, then they will ask for the password to my old id when they need to b updated....

    My Mom's iPhone has yet to be connected to a PC through iTunes mainly because I do not want to bring her on to this platform as I will never hear the end of it. So that is not a viable resolution. To her it's a phone and it needs to stay that way not become some technological nightmare, which is ironically advertised as the most simplest and care-free platform hence why she bought it 2 years ago without my consultation.

    Then, restore the phone to Factory Settings and set it up fresh.....It really isn't that hard to do. It takes you through it step by step. If she has an Apple ID, the rest is just following the prompts....

    Can you guys please help? I've changed my Apple ID a few weeks ago without signing out from other devices. I've used this previous ID on my sister's phone to update some apps. Whenever she tries updating them, my old id comes up. This box comes up asking me to put in my password for my old Apple ID and the only options are (1) cancel and (2) ok. I've tried inputting my old password and even my new one, but it won't open. We've tried logging in and out but the same still happens.
