    Franko,

The original software for controlling that printer was called Apple Printer Utility.  It ran under OS 9.  Before that was LaserWriter Utility.  If you run Classic, you can run the utility software and instruct the page not to print.  If you have opened up the printer and pressed the technician's service button to change settings, reverse that process.  Press the button again and see if that will reset your start up page.  Also, try unplugging the printer for one minute to discharge capacitors.

I do not have the tech manual handy to give the logic sequence for that button.

This is an old discussion that addresses the lack of OS X utilities that replace Apple Printer Utility.

If you have access to an old G3 or Quadra, plug the printer into it and change the settings.  No easy fix unless someone has gone to the trouble since 2007.

    Jim~

Here is the link for the manual:

    LaserWriter 8500 Manual

Page 220 introduces the priter utility information and 228 mentions the startup page.

Page 273 gives a possible reason for the change:

Note: When the communication switch is in the Reset (out) position, a startup page is printed each time the printer is turned on and the Extended Job Status settings are removed.

See appendix D for the communication button settings (page 273).

    Hi Appaloosa!

I used my old 9600 to reset the 8500 with Apple Printer Utility

I  left my Asantè where I work so I used the local talk door.

Well, when I switched off and on the 8500 I've got the effect: no service page!

    BUT:

now using the ethernet door with my Mac mini the page is printed!

I tried to use the service button, in or out, but the printer is not interested in change idea.

    Ciao!

Try reseting it again with the 9600 instead of the switch.
