error 2048 - file quicktime doesn't understand

I recently uploaded video from a personal digital camera to my Windows computer. However, when I attempt to play the video via QuickTime, I am presented with Error -2048 stating it is not a file that QuickTime Understands. The file has the .MOV extension and I am attempting to play via QuickTime 7.6.9. I looking for any suggestions as to why it may not be playing as well as any possible fixes. Thanks.

Thanks for the advice. I'm having a similar issue on a brand new Windows 7. The .mov file was sent to me as mail to my gmail account. I am unable to open it if I select "Download" and then choose to save it first to my HD and launch it from my installed Quicktime Player v. 7.6.9 (1680.9).

However, if I select "Download" and then "Open" directly from within the Internet Explorer 8 session of gmail, it runs fine.

In both cases, the same version of Quicktime Player is being used.

Why is there a difference?

Many thanks.
