to download the client.
You should really follow the configuration outlined in the documentation to make sure your installation of the server is setup properly. The server doesn't have an Application Icon. You can find configuration controls in the System Preferences control panel.

May 25, 2011 8:23 PM in response to Michael Guncheonby King C,thanks for your reply, Michael.
I cannot open your link. I think the java software link should be sent by the administrator.
Please help.
Thanks a lot.

May 26, 2011 7:42 AM in response to King Cby Michael Guncheon,Have you done any configuration or did you just click on the install file?
If you haven't done any configuration via system preferences you'll need to do that first. Consult the admin manual on the disk.
Regarding the link, are you trying that link on the machine that FCSrv is installed on?
It is possible that web services aren't running. Try (on the machine that you installed FCSrv on) either http://localhost or http://127.0.0.1
You should get some message like "it works". If you get a not found then you don't have the webserver set up yet. Consult the admin manual to get it working.

May 26, 2011 11:24 AM in response to Michael Guncheonby King C,Michael, Thanks again for your answer.
I didn't do any configuration before installing the software.
May I know what configuration I need to do? When you say admin manual, are you saying the following manuel:
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/Final_Cut_Server_Setup_and_Admin_Guide.pdf
Also, in System Preferences, which part I should click in, Account?
Thank you very much.

May 26, 2011 11:30 AM in response to King Cby Michael Guncheon,That manual link is exactly what you need to follow. (You should read starting from the beginning but...)
Start on page 19. It goes through step-by-step to get it running.
Page 39 starts the configuration process.
In System Preferences you should see the Final Cut Server icon. If you don't then the install didn't work.

May 26, 2011 6:48 PM in response to Michael Guncheonby King C,I don't see any Final Cut Server icon in System Preferences, so apparently, I didn't install it correctly. Let me re-install again.
Michael, thank you very much for your answer.

May 26, 2011 7:08 PM in response to King Cby Michael Guncheon,The step-by-step in the admin manual actually does a pretty good job of walking you through the whole procedure.
The manuals aren't extensive and I've learned a lot from this forum, trial and error and reading a few books.
The books aren't all inclusive either, but any info helps. It is a powerful piece of software but also very intricate.

May 27, 2011 5:54 AM in response to Michael Guncheonby King C,Hi, Michael, what happens now is that we can get the client software running. But when we type the user name and password, it says invalid user or incorrect password.
The user name and password that I use are the same in Account of System Preferences, that is, the one I will type when I install new software in my computer. Am I correct? Anything wrong?
Thanks a lot.

May 27, 2011 7:26 AM in response to King Cby Michael Guncheon,Did you add users and groups? See page 47.
-
May 27, 2011 8:44 AM in response to Michael Guncheonby King C,yes, i did, Michael. Very frustrated, I try many times to set different group and user, but all of them get the same result, invalid user name and password.
Please help.

May 27, 2011 10:53 PM in response to King Cby Chris Summers,Dear King,
Final Cut Server is not a click, install, and it works kinda deal like Final Cut Studio / Pro.
You can make it work for you on your hardware but what are the specs? what storage are you using? How many users will you have? What kind of Internet connection / VPN setup is there? What kind of files and what is the planned workflow for your editors?
These are all questions that need to be answered prior to a full working deployment as installation and configuration differs from environment to environment. Final Cut Server is a great solution if it is configured correctly. If not it will bite.
Where are you based?
I would suggest getting the books and possibly employing the help of an Apple Certified Professional for FCSvr to get you going. You will need ample storage, UPS power, a stable internet connection and possible VPN setup (for secure connections) and most important a proper workflow outlined for your editors.
hope this helps.
best.
c.
