How is the lunar LED working during this time. Steady on or blinking?

If it is the power supply, you probably wouldn't be getting the fans coming up.

If it's just the video card, then the system can often load and initialize and the fans wouldn't come up.

How old is the PRAM backup battery?

Which specific machine are we talking about?

Was anything odd going on before the current failure?

The machine is a pci-x powermac G5 dual 2ghz, as far as I know everything is original, excluding hard drive.

this problem first appeared when i turned it on, left, came back and it was in vacuum cleaned mode, stuck on loading screen. so i turned it off turned it on, started loading then black.... if the "lunar led" is the led on the front then its steady and that's the only light on....

See if it will come up into Open Firmware and let you do an NVRAM reset.

Hold the cmd-option-O-F key combination when powering. If the screen actually comes up, you should see a light background with black letters. To do the resed, enter the following three commands.

reset-nvram <enter>

set-defaults <enter>

reset-all <enter>

I don't have a lot of hope, in one sense, but it you get the OF terminal screen, then that says at least that at its basic guts, the machine is sort of working, and we can go from there. And, if it does make it into OF, the resets might actually clear things up.
