unable to set up ipad for the first time. when plugging into my computer it says Itunes and will not go past this

For Starters:
if your iPad is visible in the sidebar on the left in itunes, you're good to go. just sync whatever you wish, or leave it on autopilor

Uh....do you have iTunes on your computer? If you don't, you'll need to download (it's free) iTunes from Apple, then you can connect your iPad and it will walk you through the setup. If you do have iTunes, for iPad2, you need the latest version, so make sure your current version is the latest.
Your computer must meet these requirements in order to activate the iPad.

PC with USB 2.0 port
Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
iTunes 10.2 or later recommended
