Need Updated Browser

Hi Gang

I'm looking for a newer browser, but I'm staying with 10.4.11

Fire Fox 4 will not work with 10.4.11, neither will Safari 5

I've also read complaints about compatibility issues with Fire Fox 3.6

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanx

Mike

Chrome and Opera may work. I think both have 10.4.11 compatible versions. I use FireFox 3.6 with Tiger 10.4.11 on my iMac at work every day and have no problems with it whatsoever. I prefer it over Safari any day. Just my opinion ....

Hello Demo

Thanx for your concise answer - so you say I should I go for Fire Fox 3.6 - wish I knew that before I downloaded Safari 4.

Do you have both browsers installed?

Let me know if you have any problems with both?

Thank you Demo

Don't ya hate it when someone sez:

"Why are you staying with Tiger?"

"It is over four years old at this time"

THAT WASN'T MY QUESTION thank you ....

Hey ENIGMACODE,

First let me say, Yes I saw your question and answer about why and howcome your staying with Tiger. Thats all good. I do have another question along those lines thought, so don't shoot me. 😝

Will your Machine run Leopard 10.5.+ or Snow Leopard 10.6.+ ?

If so, why not just make a 2nd partition on your HDD and install Snow Leopard? That way you'll have the best of both worlds…

If not, You'll have to use Safari, FireFox or Opera. Probably have to download those from the server but not sure if opera has that like FF does... Not sure of the FF Link either. Hope this helpsℹ

Thanx musick

Hi BD 🙂

No partitions here thank you....

I already downloaded Safari 4 before I saw the comments about Fire Fox 3.6

And this TenFourFox looks really interesting too. 😎 😕

But now I don't want to muddy the waters.

Don't know if I should just leave well enough alone with Safari 4, or try two browsers installed on same system?

Thanx

Mike

Actually, I run Tiger 10.4.11 on my iMac at work, Leopard 10.5.8 on one home MacBook (white circa early 2008) and Snow Leopard 10.6.7 on a second MacBook Pro at home. I'm running the gamut on three different Macs! At work especially, I live by the creed, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". If you are happy with what you have and your computer and OS meet your needs, why change? No need to if it all works for you.

I very much prefer Fire Fox on the Tiger machine because I can take full advantage of all of the features that it offers. It has a ton of add ons/modules if you like those kinds of things and I have much better success on certain websites than I do when I run Safari. Put simply, Safari just doesn't "play nice" with certain web sites that I have had to use over the years whether at home, work or for my son's college needs so I looked for an alternative browser early on.

Opera is a nice browser, but I like the Leopard version better and would recommend Fire Fox over Opera for that reason if you are running Tiger.

I would urge you to check out Fire Fox and Opera. See what they all have to offer and they are all free so you really have nothing to lose by trying them both.
