Cracks on Hinge

I have had my MacBook Pro for a few years now (Oct 2008), Never had any problems except the

hairline cracks on the black plastic hinge. They are not scratches, It started off as one or two

cracks within the first year, so I never bothered to deal with it. Now the cracks are all over the hinge,

I have never dropped or mistreat my computer. One forum I read said heat is the reason for them, but I have realised

that getting apple to admit the unibody macbooks have a heat issue is impossible.

Has any one had apple admit that this a defect and done something about it, I can't get any one at apple to talk about this issue.

Here are some picture, hope someone can shed some light on this.

It's probably defective plastic. My car has a man-made leather dashboard coating, that when the sun is out, bubbles form underneath from the glue heating up.

These things happen. About how deep does a crack go? Or is it just surface? If any one crack doesn't reach all the way accross and isn't deep, I wouldn't be worried. It's not like a solid piece of magic connection. The inside wires should be ok... Worst comes to worst... attach a door hinge...

To add to the previous.... I ordered the part form Apple.
Cost 24,- Euro

To replace it, the display has to be taken of the MBP.

Thats a big operation. I was told not to do it myself since there are many tricky things I could screw up.
Of course I was not told that before I bought the part.
The cost - another 50 - 75,- Euro

You get the idea.
This whole thing is a BIG RIPPOF !!!
THANKS APPLE! This really makes me angry and I have a big problem with this since Apple is behaving like some idiotic "I couldn't care less" company selling boxes. That is not the Apple I knew for years!

That plastic piece should not have been there in the first place if it cannot withstand the temperatures the MBP produces.

This is the 2nd big problem I have had with the MBP in 2 years.
First the battery bulged after 80 charge cycles and now this.
I've had it. I am getting rid of this thing!
I WILL NEVER BUY A NOTEBOOK FROM APPLE EVER AGAIN and I suggest anyone who wants to avoid problems shouldn't either!

And to Apple I say... CONGRATULATIONS, THIS IS HOW TO LOSE CUSTOMERS!
This is exactly the type of thing you see when a company gets too big that it doesn't care about people and customers anymore.
Well. I hope there is another garage somewhere in this world where some clever guys are putting together something that will replace Apple in a few years. Until that time I guess we will have to deal with this sh... that is more and more coming from Apple.

I think this issue is now beginning on my MBP as well. A small piece of the plastic has no actually ripped off of the hinge. I am guessing that heat is the culprit in this one. I do have AppleCare, but am wondering if that will be covered. (It IS a manufacturer defect, as I have never dropped/bumped my Mac on anything). I am very disappointed. I have only had this computer for about 3 months, and if the hinge is doing this now, then in a year from now, I am scared of what that thing will look like. I hope Apple will replace this.
