Do you know if the new iPhone has the voice feature?

  • lalah25 Level 1 Level 1

I too would also like this feature. My old moto krave did this. And like the original poster stated it would be nice to know who is calling without having to actually go to the phone. And I agree that since Apple is supposed to be so far ahead of the game!!!You would think it would have this feature.I just upgraded to the iPhone from a phone I had 3 plus years.

There is a way: it is called Voice Over and it can be found in Settings / Accessibility (works in iOS5, don't know previous also).

Whenever you receive a call it will automatically speak the callers name. But there is a down side: the way you interact with the phone is completely changed! So a good idea would be to allow the Voice Over to speak ONLY the caller name. Simple! Please Apple!

I don't see accessibility. Is it hidden?

  • lalah25 Level 1 Level 1

Accessibility is under settings then general. This is a plus but I too would still like it to read just the caller. This option speaks everything and changes the entire usage of the phone. Downside

    :(.

I let them also know that i would like that option didn't get any reaction   http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

I loved that old nokia option specialy when driving (bluetooth carkit)

This is my first Apple device (Iphone 4S),  I am disappointed (have also trouble using Itunes with windows 7 )

    scimman

I have tried the Voiceover but it did not speak the callers name, also it made the phone very difficult to use. Why has nobody created an App to do this as my Nokia E71 had this facility? By the way I have sent a message to Apple requesting this facility but as yet have had no response.

I don't know why apple won't make this feature accessible to its users. The VoiceOver does speaks the callers name. It also speaks everything you touch on the phone. Annoying to say the least.the droid market has so much more!!!! Ugggh

I gave my old NOKIA N73 to my wife while her phone is repaired and it's great to hear it speakings the callers name again!!

i could definitely use that option as well. Thought there is some app for it - i see people with JB iphone can have that option. It would be nice to have this app on original OS

    a.

I think they have the apps for droid phones.Unfortunately not for iphone unless it is JB.And I am definitely not interested in doing that.I just think it should be a regular feature for the phone like it was for the one I had previous to the iphone.

God how I hate my iPhone 4.

I have used Nokia for more than 16 yaers, my last phone being the Nokia N97 mini. After an up hill battle of over 6 months trying to get my iPhone to do what I took for granted with my previous phone I've given up !

Simple things like caller announce, a very useful feature and something that I've used for years, seems to be impossible to get on an iPhone.

I looked at all the suggestions here, and possible work arounds and other bits of black magic, but why should I have to?

iPhones can talk !!! they can anounce ALL text, so it's not like the phone can't talk, it can. So with a very minor change to the iPhones softwear it could announce the callers name.

I have anyhow found the perfect solution to my frustration, and have this week gone back to using my trusty Nokia N97, oh how I've missed it !
