How can I get someone's signature embedded in a form?

Hi all,

In my business I have people go out and do audits of various products at the manufacturer's facility. At the end of the audit, it is required that someone from the manufacturer signs the report generated/created by my people. We have designed the form that can be called up and filled in by our people. We are stuck how to get someone's signature on it so that it can then be simply sent out from the ipad itself.

Is there an app that will add the image onto a text document? There is then a security angle that a person may refuse to sign claiming once image is in the iPad it can be used again.

With regard to the first part... using an app like Pages - Apple's word processing app - you can import the signature as a saved image.

You will need to scan the signature - save it in a compatible format like a jpeg or a tiff - then email it to yourself - open the email - tap on the image and select Save Image from the pop up. It will then be saved to your Saved Album on iPad original or to the Camera Roll in iPad 2.

I'm sure there are other ways of doing this as well but it will work. Any app that allows for placed images will work for this. There other ways of getting the image to your iPad as well. This method was the first thing that came to mind.

The security issue may be a problem if I understand correctly. Whoever has use of the iPad will have access to the signature ... if that is what you mean.

Hi Demo, Thanks for your input. Yes, we have designed the form in Numbers so that there are cells to input data from observed audits.

Unfortunately, for the sake of brevity, I did not mention that yes, what you suggest is what is built in the app. We can have the person sign in a 'sketch' app then transfer that image onto the report.

However, your response has put my thoughts in a more organized way so, guess what I am really looking is to have some type of app similar to how the digital terminal works for credit card POS.

The signature will be a different person each time on each iPad. I need the person signing to know that he is signing a digital document and that signature is now forever saved integrally with that document. Maybe I should be looking at POS apps category?

I hope I have been clearer than my original post.

I came across this service a few days ago. I don't really have a need for getting things signed very often myself but it I gave it a try and it seems pretty cool. In the event that none of the apps do what you want, you might want to give it a look.

I have nothing to do with them. I just think it's a service with a lot of potential when printing isn't an option.
