7.0.4 Update causes loss of Quicktime Pro for Final Cut User
Just downloaded QT 7.0.4 and have lost all QT Pro features and registration in the act. I'm a film director, on the road, and am not traveling with my FCP Studio program disks. Anyone with any clue on how to regain my PRO features in QT without buying Steve Jobs another turtleneck?
I saw the "Notice" but it did not include Quicktime 7 as a potential problem. I already had QT7 Pro. This update from 7 to 7.0.4 should not force me to pay an extra fee. I've spent a bazillion on five different upgrades of FCP, and QT Pro is an "included" feature.
Deborah,
I did not lose my registration. I went from 7.0.3 up to 7.0.4 with a completely updated system. You may be able to downgrade or need to request a new key to enter in the QuickTime Player > Registration box. You're correct in reading the install document. This should not disable a 7.x install according to the update.
QuickTime 7.0.4 crashed my system. I am now on safe startup (with no extensions) and booting normal brings up the blue spotlight icon in the right corner and a grey screen, no menu bar, nothing just a spinning beachball forever. Arggh...
Rob,
Are you running 10.4.2 as indicated in your signature? There might be some issues w/ that, but you shouldn't end up with a safe mode mac from a component update.
No such luck. I went back to reference files sent from the home office in Milan Italy and put in "a" QTpro code. I know that when FCP5 installed it automatically installed QTpro, no code needed.
Today I installed QT 7.0.4 on my PowerMac G4 867 with OS X 10.3.9.
QT don't open and every other quicktime dependant programs : iMovie, iPhoto, Final Cut Express, iDVD, DVD Studio Pro 4.
iTunes 6.0.2 is well working.
What to do to uninstall ?
Thanks to all, Patrick
The too had the same problem, i downgraded to 7.0.1 using Apple's downgrader, then reinstalled 7.0.4 from the Software Updater and it still did the same thing. So I downgraded again and manually installed 7.0.3 from Apple's website. Things are working good so far. I haven't yet updated to 7.0.4 but I guess I could try it now that I know a way to get back to 7.0.3 if I need to
