Original problem was that my iPad would not synch with iTunes. I tried powering cycling and did not correct the problem so I reset it by holding standby and home buttons for 10 sec. After Apple logo appeared the screen went black and the iPad appears dead, will not power up, reset, be reconized by iTunes, or charge. The battery level was 57% at time of death. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks but I tried that too along with all the other troubleshooting procedures on page 170 of the iOS 4.2 users guide with no joy.
Is your iPad shown under "DEVICES" in iTunes when connected to your computer?
Sadly no it isn't.
Did you install a driver on your computer that connects your iPad to that computer?
If you're using Windows 7 or Windows Vista it will install such a driver automatically.
I don't know how this is handled on other computers.
Is there still some life in your iPad and what is now being shown on your iPad's screen?
I'm runing the latest Mac OSX and interfacing with the OS has not been a problem in the past. When I was having problems with the synch iTunes reconized the iPad as normal but the synch would error out. I'm begining to believe its a hardware malfunction and will have to send it off for repair. Thanks for all the help.
This is important, what was the error message you saw?
The error was to the effect of "iTunes can not synch with iPad because a previous session is running" or something to that effect. The iPad was displaying the synch screen so I canceled on the iPad and restarted iTunes and tried again but recieved the same error message. I power cycled the iPad and tried to synch and same error occured. That's when I tried the reset and it went dead. Hope this helps. Thanks for all your help!
Connect your iPad to the computer and start up iTunes.
Make sure you have access to the Internet.
In iTunes under Help select "Run Diagnostics..."
Hopefully this procedure can solve the problem and/or suggest a solution.

From what I have found the procedure you told me about is for iTunes for Windows. There doesn't seem to be a diag for OSX. After reading up on the procedure you mentioned Apple support page recommends contacting their tech supoport team. Thanks for all your help and attention. Just talked to an Apple Technician. My iPad is offically dead and I have to return it for a replacement. Luckly they have an express replacement option and I should have a new one shipped out today and have it soon. Thanks to everyone for taking a stab at this problem and helping me out.
That's an interesting difference between iTunes for Windows and for Mac.
