Hi guys i just got myself a pismo (always wanted one) but it won't boot at all !!
I get power to the battery the keyboard and the HD spins but thats it, no chime and nothing on screen !! also the power light does not light ...
Can anyone shed any light on what the problem may be

Also, how long are you letting the computer try and start up. Older machines that have dead PRAM batteries take forever to poll the devices and identify what hardware is connected. A couple of minutes is not uncommon.

A dead PRAM battery can cause this. So disconnect the battery connector (it's under the kbd). This site has instructions. http://www.ifixit.com/Device/PowerBook_G3_Pismo If you get it booted, reconnect the battery. It's a rechargable battery so it may take a charge.
You can also try pressing the reset button on the back panel neat the tel line connector.

Thanks for you help guys 🙂 after much trolling through this site and ifixit i managed to get it running again..
It turned out that the main processor board hadn't been properly seated so after completely dismantling the machine looking for loose connections and finally giving up, I pressed the board in a bit harder until it "clicked" and that sorted it...
Now trying to install 10.4 on it and trying to find some replacement case parts to bring it back to tip top condition.
Ps the machine was from ebay sold as spares or repair. 😉
One more thing is there a hardware test disc available for this machine ??
Yes, and I have it.. if you need it let me know.. ALL PPC users need these tools and I don't care how you get them, they all must have them. 2nd hand machines from ebay sellers don't provide most of the time the original install discs which is a **** shame. Anyway, if you need it I got it.

And this is for the Pismo G4, right? btw.. I know its a G3, but having no G3 in there and a G4 upgrade chip its now called a G4 Pismo.
No it's still a little G3 i'm afraid, Did look at putting a G4 in there but for the price it's not really worth it. Besides i already have a 17" powerbook 😎

thanks for the link Tom, how do you install it to a disc so that the computer can run from it. i tried just burning the file to disc but that doesn't work.

Once you burn it to a CD/DVD, it will boot & you can run the AHT.
